About Kongevejen

The Kongevejen, “king’s road” in Danish, is the dirt road that links the small jetty at Itilleq on the Tunulliarfik Fjord to Igaliku on the neighboring fjord. The name comes from a Danish king passing through the region in the 20th century.

The path is about 4 km and crosses the isthmus between the two fjords, with a gentle climb at the start and a descent into the village. Along the way there are sheep pastures, small lakes and views to both sides, with icebergs in the fjords.

For many visitors it is the arrival to Igaliku: the boat drops the group at Itilleq, and luggage usually follows by car while travelers walk.

The walk is easy and suitable for most people with appropriate footwear. In rain the path becomes muddy in some sections.
