About Nuuk Art Museum

The Nuuk Art Museum (Nuuk Kunstmuseum) began as a private collection and brings together works about Greenland made over more than a century. It is in a residential neighbourhood, a short distance from the centre.

The galleries display oil paintings and watercolours of landscapes, icebergs and scenes of city and village life by Danish artists who travelled the island and by Greenlandic painters. There are also drawings, prints and photographs.

An important part of the collection is the small sculptures in bone, tooth, wood and soapstone, including tupilaks, figures from Inuit imagination linked to stories of the country’s east.

Temporary exhibitions present today’s Greenlandic artists, and the museum is a good break on a cold or rainy day.
