About Katuaq Cultural Centre

Katuaq is the country’s main cultural centre, located in central Nuuk. Designed by the Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen and opened in 1997, the building has a long undulating façade of light wooden slats that evokes the movement of the aurora borealis.

Inside there are two performance halls, a large and a smaller one, which host concerts, films, theatre and conferences. The high lobby, lit through the glass façade, houses art exhibitions and a café.

The programme mixes Greenlandic artists, local bands and films from the country with performances from abroad. On dates such as National Day, June 21, the area around the building is often crowded.

Even without a ticket for a show, it’s worth entering the lobby to see the interior and the open exhibitions.
