About Stowe Recreation Path

The Stowe Recreation Path is about 8.5 km long and links the village of Stowe to Brook Road, climbing gently through the valley parallel to Mountain Road. It was built in two stages in the 1980s on land donated by farmers and residents, and became one of the town’s most used places.

The trail is paved and nearly flat, with 20 wooden bridges that cross the West Branch River and its tributaries. The route passes fields, woodlands, gardens and riverside sections, with views of Mount Mansfield in the background.

It’s used for walking, running, cycling and rollerblading in summer; in winter, when it snows, it becomes a cross-country ski and snowshoe trail. It is open year-round.

There are bike rental shops in the village and on Mountain Road, and several access points along the road with parking.
