About Saint Louis Zoo
The Saint Louis Zoo is located in Forest Park and began at the 1904 World’s Fair, when the large flight cage for birds was built and remains in use. It is one of the most visited zoos in the United States and is largely funded by public resources from the region.
The zoo houses thousands of animals in themed areas: the penguin and seabird area with cool environments, the big cats section, the Asian elephant area, the African river valley with hippos, and the insect and butterfly house. A train runs through the zoo and connects the entrances.
Some indoor attractions, such as the train and the carousel, require a separate ticket.
