About Georgia O'Keeffe Museum
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum opened in 1997, a few blocks from the Plaza, to display the work of painter Georgia O'Keeffe, one of the most famous artists of American modernism. O'Keeffe began coming to New Mexico in the late 1920s and moved to the region in 1949, splitting her time between the houses in Abiquiú and at Ghost Ranch, about an hour and a half from Santa Fe.
The museum holds the largest collection of her works in the world, with paintings, drawings and sculptures ranging from the enlarged flowers that made her famous to bones, colorfully layered hills and New Mexico skies. Exhibitions rotate throughout the year and often pair the artist’s works with personal objects and photographs.
The museum also cares for O'Keeffe’s house and studio in Abiquiú, visited by reservation only, on guided tours in season.
The galleries are small and can fill up in summer; tickets are time-specific.
