About Slide Rock State Park

Slide Rock State Park is in Oak Creek Canyon, about 11 km north of Sedona, on a former apple farm founded in the early 20th century by Frank Pendley. The creek runs over a smooth sandstone bed covered in algae, forming a natural slide of about 25 meters and a series of pools.

In summer, the park is one of the most popular swimming spots in northern Arizona. The water is cold and clear, and the current carries people who slide down the stone channel into a deeper pool. The canyon’s red cliffs and pine trees surround the creek.

The family house, the apple packing shed, and the orchard remain and are part of a historic district. Short trails run along the bank and through the orchard.

The park monitors water quality and may temporarily close swimming. On summer weekends, entry often fills up early.
