About Old Town Scottsdale
Scottsdale’s Old Town grew around the small farming settlement founded at the end of the 19th century. Some adobe and brick houses from that time still stand, like the old school, now the local history museum, and the adobe church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
The surrounding streets concentrate more than one hundred art galleries, many specializing in western painting, bronze sculpture and Native American art, alongside shops selling boots, hats and silver and turquoise jewelry. On Thursday evenings many galleries open at the same time for the art walk, a tradition decades old.
The Western Spirit museum, dedicated to the art and history of the American West, is in the center. The area also has restaurants, bars and the Scottsdale Civic Center, a park with sculptures and lawns.
At the end of winter, baseball teams hold their spring training in regional stadiums, and Old Town fills with fans.
