About National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum sits in northeast Oklahoma City atop a hill called Persimmon Hill. It is one of the largest museums dedicated to the history and art of the American West.
In the main hall stands End of the Trail by James Earle Fraser, an exhausted Native warrior on a horse with its head bowed, presented as a monumental plaster cast about 5.5 meters long. The art galleries bring together paintings and sculptures by Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, and contemporary Western artists.
Prosperity Junction recreates a late-19th-century cattle town at full scale, with a saloon, blacksmith, church, and depot that you can walk through. Other galleries address the rodeo, with a hall of fame, cowboy life, firearms, Indigenous cultures, and the West in cinema.
The gardens, with sculptures and ponds, complete the visit.
