About Mystic Aquarium

Mystic Aquarium opened in 1973 near Interstate 95 and is one of New England’s most visited aquariums. In addition to exhibits, it runs scientific research and a rescue team that cares for seals, turtles and dolphins found injured on regional beaches.

The main attraction is the belugas, Arctic white whales, which live in a large outdoor tank with underwater viewing windows. You can also see Steller sea lions up close, a colony of African penguins and various seals.

Indoors, galleries display fish, jellyfish, sharks and animals from kelp forests, coral reefs and the cold waters of the North Atlantic. There are touch pools for children and temporary exhibits about marine life.

The aquarium offers separate paid programs, such as encounters with the belugas and with the penguins, with limited availability.
