The city
Village at the mouth of the Mystic River on Connecticut’s east coast, split between the towns of Groton and Stonington. In the 19th century it was a center for ship and whaling-ship construction. The center has the 1922 drawbridge, captains’ houses, and shops. To the north, the Mystic Seaport Museum brings together a 19th-century harbor with historic ships; near the highway is the Mystic Aquarium, with belugas.
