About Las Vegas Strip
The Strip is the roughly 6 km section of Las Vegas Boulevard south of the city center, between the airport and the STRAT tower. Along it are the large hotel-casinos, many built around a theme: replicas of Paris, Venice and New York, a medieval castle, an Egyptian pyramid. Technically, most of the Strip lies outside the city limits, in the communities of Paradise and Winchester.
Walking the Strip is like watching a parade of themed architecture. In front of one hotel the dancing fountains move to music in frequent performances throughout day and night; in another, an indoor garden changes decor each season. Shops, restaurants, theaters and showrooms occupy the ground floors, and pay-attraction options include the High Roller observation wheel, the roller coaster that wraps around one hotel’s facade and the observation deck atop the STRAT tower.
Major shows are part of the experience: contemporary circus, musicals, illusionists and headline residencies perform in theaters inside the hotels. Tickets often sell out on peak dates; it’s worth buying in advance. Casinos operate around the clock, but only those 21 and older may gamble.
Distances are deceptive: each hotel can occupy an entire city block, and crossing the boulevard requires using the pedestrian bridges. In summer heat, walking is strenuous during the day; evening is the best time to stroll.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
From half a day to a full day to walk; at night, add a few more hours for a show.
Best time
At night, when the facades light up and the fountains perform in sequence. In summer, avoid walking during the hottest hours of the day.
How to get there
The southern tip of the Strip is next to the airport. The monorail runs along the east side of part of the Strip, and buses circulate along the boulevard to the old downtown.
Tip
Use the pedestrian bridges and the hotels’ indoor corridors, which are often connected; they save time and exposure to heat. Bring water for long walks.

Frequently asked questions about Las Vegas Strip
How long is the Las Vegas Strip?
About 6 km, from the airport to the STRAT tower. Because the hotels are huge, walking the entire Strip takes a full day; many people combine walking with the monorail and the boulevard buses.
Do you have to pay to see the fountains and hotels on the Strip?
You don’t pay to enter the hotels or to see the dancing fountains and indoor gardens. Shows, the Ferris wheel, observation decks and other attractions have separate fees; check the current price list.
Can minors go into the casinos?
They may pass through common areas when accompanied, but they cannot gamble or remain at table games and slot machines: gambling is for ages 21 and over only. Some nighttime venues also have minimum age requirements.
