About Lam Watah and Rabe Meadow Trail

The Lam Watah trail crosses Rabe Meadow, a wet meadow cut by Burke Creek just north of Stateline’s hotels. The name comes from a Washoe expression meaning something like a permanent pestle by the creek: for centuries the Washoe camped in the area in summer to fish and gather berries.

The land was once slated for a casino, but it was bought by The Nature Conservancy and donated to the U.S. Forest Service, which has managed it since the 1980s. Boardwalks cross the marshy sections, and panels explain the site’s history and meadow life.

The path is almost entirely flat and ends at Nevada Beach, after a stretch of pine forest. The round trip is just over 3 km, and a paved spur allows the route to be done as a loop.
