About Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jumping Complex
The jump complex lies just outside Lake Placid, about 3 km from the village, and was built for the 1980 Games. The two concrete jump towers, one larger and one smaller, are visible from afar and are still used for training and international ski‑jumping and freestyle competitions.
An eight‑person gondola, the Skyride, climbs from the base to the foot of the towers, and a glass elevator takes visitors to the top of the larger jump. The viewing platform is at the point where athletes begin their descent, offering views of the ramp and the mountains, including the High Peaks and Whiteface.
In summer, athletes train on ramps covered with synthetic material, and freestyle jumpers land in a pool. On some days there are public demonstrations. A zip line runs parallel to the slope.
In winter the complex hosts World Cup events, and on competition weekends the area is very busy.
