About Lake Placid Olympic Center
The Olympic complex is on Main Street in the heart of the village and includes the ice arenas used in the 1932 and 1980 Winter Games. The best‑known is Herb Brooks Arena, where in February 1980 the U.S. Olympic hockey team — made up of college players — beat the Soviet Union 4–3 in the game known as the Miracle on Ice and went on to win the gold. The arena is named after that team’s coach.
The building houses the Lake Placid Olympic Museum, with one of the largest collections of Winter Games artifacts in North America: uniforms, medals, torches, sleds and equipment from both editions, plus videos and an exhibit about the Miracle on Ice.
Across the street is the outdoor speed‑skating oval where Eric Heiden won five gold medals at the 1980 Games. In winter the oval opens to the public for skating, with skate rentals.
The arenas remain in use year‑round for training, hockey and figure‑skating competitions, and ice shows.
