About Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse
Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse was lit in 1892 to guide ships through the busy, narrow Mackinac Strait between Lakes Michigan and Huron. The yellow brick building, with tower and keeper’s house, resembles a small castle.
Decommissioned after the bridge opened, the lighthouse was restored and presents rooms as they were in the early 20th century, with the keeper’s family belongings and a fog whistle. From the top of the tower you can see the Mackinac Bridge, Mackinac Island, and passing freighters.
Next to it, a fog-signal shed tells stories of shipwrecks in the strait.
