About Horseshoe Bend
Horseshoe Bend is a meander of the Colorado River that wraps around a large horseshoe-shaped sandstone rock, just downstream from Glen Canyon Dam. From the overlook, on the edge of a cliff about 300 meters high, you can see the full curve, the green river below and red walls surrounding it.
The overlook is inside Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. A wide roughly 1 km trail, partly paved, links the parking lot to the rim, where there is a section with a railing. Outside the railing the edge is open and the sandstone surface can be slippery when covered in loose sand.
The parking lot is managed by the town of Page and charges per vehicle. Boat tours on the river, which depart from the dam, pass by the bend from below.
Late afternoon light hits the walls from the side, and the overlook fills with people waiting for sunset.
