Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.
Via the Parks Highway, about 380 km from Anchorage and 180 km from Fairbanks. The Alaska Railroad stops at the park station, south of town, in the summer season. There are buses from Anchorage and Fairbanks in summer.
How many days
Two days: one for the park road bus tour and another for the entrance-area trails and the sled-dog demonstration.
When to go
From the second half of May to the first half of September, with the park in full operation. In winter it is intensely cold, the days are short and the nights may display the aurora borealis.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Helpful for getting around between Healy, the park entrance and Parks Highway viewpoints. In season, there is transport between area hotels and the entrance, and inside the park the way is the bus. Drive on the right.

About 18 km to the north, roughly a 15-minute drive on the Parks Highway.
Which airport to use to get to Denali?
Fairbanks, about 180 km away, or Anchorage, about 380 km. From both there is rail service in summer and highway access.
Can you see the aurora borealis in Healy?
From September to April, on dark, clear nights the aurora can appear. Activity varies night to night.
Does Denali Park open in winter?
Yes, but only the entrance area and the first kilometers of the road, with snow. The buses and most services operate in summer.
