About B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center
Riley B. King, B.B. King, was born in 1925 on a Delta farm and spent his youth in Indianola, where he worked in the cotton fields before leaving for Memphis and starting his career. The museum dedicated to him opened in 2008, partly inside a former brick cotton gin.
The route follows the musician’s life, from Delta farms and churches to stages around the world, with films, instruments, stage clothes and personal items. Some of his Lucille guitars, the name he gave his instruments, are on display. Other rooms address the history of the Delta, segregation and the music that emerged there.
B.B. King died in 2015 and was buried in the museum garden, in a memorial open to visitors.
Indianola sits in the middle of the Delta, surrounded by plantations, and has other Blues Trail sites related to the musician.
