About Fort Worth Stockyards
The Stockyards are in the north of Fort Worth, where in the late 19th and early 20th centuries one of the country’s largest cattle markets operated, connected to the railroads and packing plants. Today the neighborhood is a national historic district, with the pens, the old stock exchange building and brick-paved streets.
Twice a day, horse-mounted cowboys drive a small herd of Texas longhorn cattle down Exchange Avenue, the main street. On Friday and Saturday nights, the 1908 Cowtown Coliseum hosts rodeos with bull riding, roping and barrel racing.
The neighborhood has boot and hat shops, country dance halls and meat restaurants, and a wooden maze of pens to walk through.
