About West Side Market
The West Side Market opened in 1912 in Ohio City, the neighborhood on the west side of the Cuyahoga River, to supply immigrant families in the area. The yellow brick market hall, with a vaulted Guastavino-tiled roof and a clock tower about 40 meters tall, is one of the city's symbols.
Inside, dozens of stalls sell meats, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, sweets and specialties from Hungarian, German, Slovak, Greek, Puerto Rican and Middle Eastern origins. The outdoor arcade houses the fruit and vegetable stalls.
Around the market, Ohio City has breweries, cafés and restaurants in 19th-century buildings, and the view of downtown from the bridge is one of the most photographed in the city.
