About Cleveland Museum of Art

The Cleveland Museum of Art opened in 1916 in a neoclassical marble building beside an artificial lake in Wade Park and later added a modern wing with a large glass-covered atrium. The collection contains about 60,000 works and spans more than six thousand years of art.

Among the most visited galleries are those of Egyptian and Asian art, the medieval armor collection, and European painting, with works by Caravaggio, El Greco, Turner, Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso. American art, prints and photography complete the visit.

The permanent collection can be viewed free of charge, and temporary exhibitions are usually ticketed. Around the museum, University Circle has gardens, Severance Hall (home of the orchestra) and the natural history museum.
