The city
Former whaling village on the east side of Martha's Vineyard, with white captains’ houses in a Greek style, picket fences and gardens along Main and Water streets. The Edgartown lighthouse marks the entrance to the harbor, from where a small ferry crosses to Chappaquiddick. It is the base for exploring the island: the colorful cottages of Oak Bluffs to the north and the clay cliffs of Aquinnah at the western tip.
