The city
Capital of Maryland, in a small harbor on the Chesapeake Bay. The colonial center has brick streets that descend to the City Dock, full of sailboats, and the 18th-century capitol, the oldest U.S. state capitol still in use by a legislature. Next to it is the Naval Academy, the officers’ school of the Navy, open for guided visits.
