About High Museum of Art

The High Museum of Art was founded in 1905 and in 1983 gained the white building designed by Richard Meier, with an atrium of ramps lit from above. In 2005 Renzo Piano designed new pavilions alongside it, forming a plaza with Midtown’s arts center.

The collection includes American art of the 19th and 20th centuries, European art, African art, decorative arts and design, and one of the country’s best-known collections of folk and self-taught art, with artists from the South. Photography is prominent, with images from the civil rights movement.

The museum hosts temporary exhibitions from major international collections.
