How many days
One day for Lent, the Stara trta, the cathedral and the castle. Two days allow ascending Pohorje and visiting the synagogue at leisure; three include Ptuj as a day trip.
When to go
From May to September, with warm, long days; in June the Lent festival usually occupies the river bank for about two weeks. September and October bring the harvest and the Stara trta celebration. From December to March there is usually skiing on Pohorje and cold days.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The centre, Lent and the synagogue can be explored on foot, and an urban bus takes you to the lower station of the Pohorje cable car, about 5 km away. The car helps for the wine hills around the city.
