How many days

One day for Lipica, Vilenica and the botanical garden. As a base for the Karst, two or three days allow you to include Štanjel, the wine villages and the Škocjan Caves.

When to go

Spring and autumn bring mild days for the plateau. Summer is hot and dry, and Lipica is more pleasant in the early morning. In winter, bora gusts are frequent; Lipica and the botanical garden generally open with reduced hours.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Not for the centre and the botanical garden. For Lipica and Vilenica, which are about 5 to 7 km away, a car or taxi makes things easier; there are trails for those who prefer to walk or cycle across the plateau.
