About Blue Hole (Dahab)
The Blue Hole is about 8 km north of Dahab center, on the Gulf of Aqaba coast. It is a circular sinkhole in the coral reef, just over 100 meters deep, surrounded by a shallow rim where the water shifts from deep blue to turquoise.
On the seaward side, a shallow passage called the Saddle links the hole to the open sea at about 6 meters depth. Below that is the Arch, an underwater tunnel about 26 meters long at more than 50 meters depth, which can only be traversed in technical diving with specific training.
For snorkelers, the rim of the hole and the adjacent reef already show corals and colorful fish. The deep, calm water close to shore makes the Blue Hole a training spot for freediving, and divers with basic certification often do the nearby reef dive, Bells, toward the hole accompanied by instructors.
On the shore there are Bedouin restaurants and equipment rental stalls, where you wait between dives.

How much time to set aside
Half a day, for snorkel or one dive with rest between entries into the water.
Best time
Early in the morning, before group activity increases. Morning light also makes the water color more visible.
How to get there
By taxi or pickup from Dahab center, about 8 km along the coastal road, in a little over 15 minutes. Many dive trips include transport.
Tip
Always dive with a dive center and respect the limits of your training: the Arch is technical diving. For snorkel, wear reef shoes to enter the water via the reef.
