About Ras Abu Galum Protected Area

Ras Abu Galum lies north of Dahab, past the Blue Hole, on a strip of coast between the granite mountains of the Sinai and the Gulf of Aqaba. It is a protected area, with no paved road to the beach, featuring coral reefs, sandy coves and a small Bedouin village of the Mzeina tribe.

The most common route starts at the Blue Hole and follows the coastal trail, on foot or by camel, taking about one and a half to two hours. There are also boats and pickups along the desert track, hired in Dahab.

On arrival, simple Bedouin camps serve tea and meals and rent huts for those who want to sleep by the sea. The reefs near the beach are good for snorkel, and further north is the Blue Lagoon, a shallow cove of clear water.
