Halifax – Nova Scotia Destination Halifax and the South Shore Capital

How to get there

  • Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) Enfield · 35 km
  • Halifax Station (VIA Rail) 2 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

The airport is about 35 km from downtown; the link is the express bus 320 or taxis. VIA Rail’s station in the South End receives the train from Montreal. Urban ferries cross the harbour to Dartmouth.

How many days

Two days: one for the citadel, the waterfront and the museums, another for Pier 21, the gardens and Peggy's Cove.

When to go

June to September for the boardwalk and boat tours; October for fall foliage. In winter downtown is open, but it’s cold and windy.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Not in downtown, which is walkable with buses and ferries. For Peggy's Cove and the southern coast, a car or a tour is recommended.
