About Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute

The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, known as BUEI, is on East Broadway at the edge of Hamilton Harbour and opened in 1997. Its exhibition space, the Ocean Discovery Centre, showcases the ocean around Bermuda without visitors needing to go into the water.

The galleries cover the underwater mountains on which the islands sit, deep‑sea creatures, reef shipwrecks and the history of underwater exploration. A large collection of shells and items recovered from sunken ships complements the visit, along with screens and interactive panels.

One exhibition is dedicated to the Bermuda Triangle, explaining the stories and the explanations given for the disappearances attributed to the region. The institute also organizes activities for children and events throughout the year.
