How many days
One day is enough for the abbey and its museums, the church of Saint-Sébastien and the town centre. With a second day you can include the guided visit to the Spa‑Francorchamps circuit, the Coo waterfall or Malmedy.
When to go
The abbey is open year‑round. Between spring and autumn races usually take place at the circuit, when the area gets busier. Laetare occupies the town for three days, three weeks before Easter. Winters in the Ardennes are cold, sometimes with snow.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
It helps a lot. Regional buses run infrequently; having a car makes it easier to combine Stavelot with the circuit, Coo and the Hautes Fagnes.
