The festival
The Paraty International Literary Festival has taken place since 2003 in the city’s historic center, recognized as a World Heritage site. Each edition honors a figure from Brazilian literature and hosts writers from Brazil and other countries for panel discussions.
Besides the main program, the town fills with partner venues offering debates, book launches, and activities organized by publishers and institutions, and there is programming for children and young people. The cobblestone streets, colonial houses, and the pier complete the setting.
Main program panels require tickets, sold in advance; partner venues run their own programs, often free of charge. Wear comfortable shoes: the historic center’s stone paving is uneven.
Paraty is small and accommodation sells out during FLIP. Book well in advance or consider staying in neighboring towns.
