About Taliesin
Taliesin was Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio from 1911, in the hills of the Wisconsin River valley where his mother’s family had settled. The name, in Welsh, means bright brow, and the house was built into a hillside rather than on the summit, using local limestone and wood. It burned twice and was rebuilt by Wright, who modified it over nearly 50 years.
The property, about 320 hectares, includes the Hillside school with its drafting hall and theatre, the Midway Barn house, and the dams and gardens designed by the architect. Taliesin is part of the group of eight Wright works inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, alongside buildings such as Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum.
Tours depart from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center, a building Wright himself designed as a riverside restaurant, and proceed by bus to the estate.
