About House on the Rock
The House on the Rock began to be built in the 1940s and 1950s by Alex Jordan Jr. on a sandstone pillar about 18 meters high, atop a hill near Spring Green. The house, with low ceilings, rugs, fireplaces and windows to the woods, ends in the Infinity Room, a narrow glass room that projects about 66 meters over the valley, with no support underneath.
Over the decades, Jordan added huge rooms filled with collections and replicas: mechanical musical instruments, dolls, armor, circus miniatures, a giant sea creature and one of the largest carousels in the world, with thousands of lights and figures, but no horses.
The visit is long, follows a one-way route, and includes stairs and dark passages.
