About American Revolution Museum at Yorktown

The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown is run by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and tells the story of American independence, from tensions with Britain in the 1760s to the formation of the new nation.

The galleries assemble objects, documents, and reconstructions, highlighting ordinary people of the period: soldiers, women, enslaved and free Africans, and Indigenous peoples. An immersive theater film with wind and smoke effects recreates the Siege of Yorktown.

Outside, a Continental Army encampment shows soldiers’ daily routines, with demonstrations of period weapons, cooking, and medicine. A recreated late-18th-century farm includes a house, kitchen, garden, tobacco fields, and animals.

The museum is near the battlefield, and many visitors start there before touring the National Park circuit.
