About Conway Scenic Railroad

The Conway Scenic Railroad uses old branch lines in the Saco Valley, purchased by a group of enthusiasts who began operating excursions in 1974. North Conway station, with Victorian-style towers, dates from the 19th century and faces the village green. Nearby, the roundhouse and yard house historic locomotives and cars.

Shorter rides run up the valley to Conway or Bartlett, passing fields, rivers and mountain views in vintage cars, some with dining service. They last from about one to a few hours.

In season, the mountain train called the Mountaineer climbs the former Portland-to-Vermont line to Crawford Notch, crossing high metal bridges over the valleys, such as the Frankenstein Trestle, and sections cut into the notch’s rock walls. It’s the most sought-after ride in autumn.

At year’s end the railroad runs family-themed trips with Christmas decorations.
