About Nemours Estate

Nemours was built between 1909 and 1910 for Alfred I. du Pont, who named the estate after the French town linked to his family’s origins. The 77-room mansion follows the style of 18th-century French country houses, with decorated salons, furniture, tapestries, paintings, and objects collected by the family.

The formal gardens extend along a long axis from the house, with lawns, reflecting pools, statues, colonnades, and a classical temple—one of the largest ensembles of French-style gardens in North America. Surrounding woodlands and trails complete roughly 80 hectares of grounds.

The Chauffeur’s Garage houses the family’s vintage cars from the early 20th century. A shuttle bus runs through the gardens for visitors who prefer not to walk the full axis.

The season runs from April through early November. At year’s end the mansion reopens with Christmas decorations for Noël at Nemours. The entrance is on the grounds of the Nemours Children’s Hospital, with its own signage.
