About The Museum of Flight
The Museum of Flight is at the far south end of King County International Airport, commonly known as Boeing Field, between Seattle and Tukwila. It began in 1965 with a group of volunteers who restored a 1929 Boeing 80A, and today presents itself as the largest private air and space museum in the world, with more than 150 aircraft.
In the Great Gallery, a six-story glass hall, dozens of planes hang from the ceiling or sit on the floor, from vintage gliders to fighter jets. The Red Barn, the wooden barn from 1909 where Boeing assembled its first airplanes, was moved to the museum grounds and tells the story of the region’s early aerospace industry.
Across the street, the Aviation Pavilion, a large covered pavilion, houses passenger and military aircraft. Among them are a British Airways Concorde and SAM 970, the first U.S. presidential jet, used from 1959 to 1996, which can be toured inside.
The space gallery features the full-fuselage simulator used to train Space Shuttle astronauts, with separate paid guided interior tours, as well as artifacts from the Apollo missions.
