About Chihuly Garden and Glass

Chihuly Garden and Glass opened in 2012 at Seattle Center next to the Space Needle to showcase the work of Dale Chihuly, a blown-glass artist born in Tacoma, about 50 km from Seattle. The exhibition is divided into three parts: the indoor galleries, the glasshouse (Glasshouse) and the garden.

In the galleries, each room groups a series by the artist: baskets and cylinders inspired by objects of the indigenous peoples of the northwest, shell- and wave-shaped pieces, suspended chandeliers and a glass ceiling covered in colorful forms, top-lit. One room recreates a boat filled with glass spheres, like those he made float on rivers.

The Glasshouse, with a steel-and-glass structure, features on its ceiling an installation about 30 meters long in shades of red, orange and yellow that changes color with daylight. In the garden, the glass sculptures sit among plants, trees and flowers chosen to match the colors of the works.

The visit is self-guided, with text panels about the techniques and series. There is also a small theater showing films about the creative process.
