About Barton Springs Pool
Barton Springs Pool is a natural swimming pool formed by springs of the Edwards Aquifer, in Zilker Park, about 3 km from downtown Austin. Water rises from the limestone bottom and stays around 20 °C year-round, cold in summer and warm in winter.
The pool is about 300 meters long, with a stone and gravel bottom, shallow areas and a deep section by the diving board. Sloped lawns around it are for sunbathing. The springs are home to the Barton Springs salamander, an endangered species found only there, and a small center explains the ecosystem.
Zilker Park around it has trails, a botanical garden, a children’s train and the grounds for the city’s large autumn music festival.
