About Lan Su Chinese Garden

Lan Su occupies an entire block of Portland’s Chinatown in the Old Town district. It opened in 2000 as a partnership between Portland and Suzhou, its sister city in China, and was built by Chinese craftsmen using stone, roof tiles and wood brought from there.

Inside the walls, stone paths circle a central pond and pass pavilions, bridges and carved windows that frame the view, like in classical Chinese scholar gardens. There are plants native to China, water‑worn rocks and engraved poem inscriptions.

A two‑story tea house serves teas and snacks with a view of the pond. The garden hosts music performances, calligraphy demonstrations and celebrations such as Lunar New Year.
