About Marginal Way
The Marginal Way is a seaside path of about 2 km that links Shore Road, near Ogunquit’s center, to Perkins Cove. Opened in the 1920s on land donated for public use, it runs along the top of the coastal rocks between the ocean and the gardens of houses and hotels, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The path is paved, narrow and almost flat, with benches placed along the route, many bearing plaques honoring residents. Small trails descend to the rocks and sandy coves, like Little Beach, where you can see waves breaking and, at low tide, tide pools with crabs and seaweed.
In the central section there is a small white lighthouse on the rocks at Lobster Point, the most photographed spot on the route. Wild roses and low shrubs bloom in early summer.
The trail ends at Perkins Cove, with restaurants and fishing boats, and can be done in either direction. If you don’t want to walk back, take the local trolley in summer.

How to get there
It starts on Shore Road, near Ogunquit’s center, and ends at Perkins Cove. There are paid parking lots at both ends, small and full in summer. There is no entrance fee to walk the path.
Tip
