About Seashore Trolley Museum

The Seashore Trolley Museum began in 1939, when a group of enthusiasts bought an open trolley that was about to be retired and moved it to land inland from Kennebunkport. The collection grew and is now one of the world’s largest dedicated to public transit, with hundreds of trolleys, interurban cars and buses from American cities and other countries.

The vehicles are housed in exhibition barns, where you can see wooden trolleys from the late 19th century, subway cars and trolleybuses. In a workshop, volunteers restore vehicles, and some of the work can be observed by visitors.

Rides run on a roughly 2.4 km line, on an old trolley right-of-way that once connected the towns in the region. The route crosses woods and fields and returns to the visitors’ center; the cars used on any given day vary.

In summer and at year‑end there are events with decorated trolleys and family programming.
