About Goose Rocks Beach
Goose Rocks Beach stretches for more than 3 km of fine sand on Kennebunkport’s east coast, starting at the mouth of the Batson River. The name comes from a group of rocks that appear offshore in front of the beach. At low tide the sandbar becomes very wide and shallow pools form among the rocks.
Behind the beach are summer houses, almost all rebuilt after the major 1947 fire, and a protected marsh area that is part of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, home to shorebirds and marsh birds.
The beach has no boardwalk, kiosks or shops, which keeps the atmosphere tranquil. It is popular with families and for long walks at low tide. The seawater is usually cold, generally below 20 °C, even in August.
Parking by the beach is limited and regulated by the town, with paid permits in summer.
