About The Andy Warhol Museum

Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh in 1928, the son of immigrants from what is now Slovakia, and studied art in the city before moving to New York. The Andy Warhol Museum, opened in 1994 in a former North Shore warehouse, is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist.

The seven floors follow Warhol’s trajectory, from the commercial illustrations of the 1950s to the screen prints of soup cans, movie stars, and flowers, passing through his experimental films, Polaroid photographs, and commissioned portraits. One room recreates the inflatable silver clouds that float through the space.

The museum also houses the Time Capsules, boxes in which Warhol collected correspondence, clippings, and everyday objects, and a studio where visitors can try the screen-printing technique.

The museum is part of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, and tickets can be combined with the other museums.
