About Ohiopyle State Park
Ohiopyle State Park protects about 8,000 hectares of the Youghiogheny River valley in the Laurel Highlands. The river runs through the village of Ohiopyle and drops at Ohiopyle Falls, a roughly 6-meter waterfall viewed from platforms by the visitor center.
Below the falls begins the Lower Yough stretch, with rapids popular for rafting and kayaking, offered by outfitters in the village. On Meadow Run, the Natural Waterslides are smooth stone ramps where visitors slide in the water in summer, and Cucumber Falls drops into a rock amphitheater covered in vegetation.
The Great Allegheny Passage, a bike trail on a former railway bed, crosses the park and the village with bridges over the river. There are also forest trails, viewpoints like Baughman Rocks and camping areas.
In autumn the valley slopes turn colorful, and the park receives many visitors on weekends.
