About Grandview
Grandview sits on the canyon rim in the park’s south district, near Beckley. From the main overlook, about 430 meters above the water, you can see a large bend in the New River known as Horseshoe Bend, with the railroad tracks following the riverbank.
The area was a state park before becoming part of the national park. It has parking, picnic areas, and short rim trails such as the Grandview Rim Trail, which links other overlooks.
The rhododendrons that cover the slopes typically bloom from late May into early June, the busiest time to visit. In autumn the forests take on red and yellow hues.
In summer, an outdoor amphitheater nearby, outside the park area, hosts theatrical performances.
