About Lower Broadway

Lower Broadway is the section of Broadway between 5th Avenue and the Cumberland River. In the two- and three-story brick buildings you’ll find honky-tonks, bars where country bands take turns on stage throughout the day and night, often on more than one floor.

The tradition dates to when Grand Ole Opry artists at the Ryman would leave through the back of the theater to play and drink in nearby bars. Some, like Tootsie's Orchid Lounge with its purple walls, still display photos from that era.

The street also has stores selling cowboy boots and hats. At night and on weekends it gets very crowded, with groups and bachelor/bachelorette parties.
