About Grand Ole Opry

The Grand Ole Opry began in 1925 as a radio program in Nashville and has been broadcast continuously ever since. Over a century it has featured artists such as Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks, and being invited to join the cast is one of country music’s highest honors.

Since 1974 the show has taken place at the Grand Ole Opry House, a theater east of downtown. Each night brings together several performers, from established names to new talent, who each sing a few songs as the program airs. In the center of the stage, a wooden circle was taken from the Ryman Auditorium stage, the Opry’s previous home.

Backstage tours are offered during the day, showing dressing rooms and the stage. In some winter months the show returns to the Ryman.
